The subtle knife

Millions of worlds exist - it has been known for long for witches, the guardians of the prophecy; this knowledge passes also to Will Parry, who sets the quest in search for his father, missing member of discovery expedition. From the reality we know well, he passes suddenly to the world where ghosts attack grown-ups and suck away their will to live, and children light-heartedly play in abandoned cities. That's where Will meets Lyra - unusual girl, searching for knowledge about the Dust. The inquisitiveness and indications of the aletheiometer lead her to Mary Malone, the scientist exploring dark materials and conscious particles called Shadows. The course of events, in which two children participate, causes that Will becames a guardian of a weapon of unusual power.

Between the dimensions also angels and witches travel, preparing for a war, as mankind have not known before. The subtle knife may settle the conflict. Will the evolution of human consciousness really turn out to be angels' revenge?
