The Misenchanted Sword
based on 4 reviews
Valder with the Magic Sword became a legendary hero for the Ethsharities. This book takes us into the times of Great War, and tells about his true adventures; the real life turns out to be not exactly the same as legend, but certainly more amusing.

The Misenchanted Sword was the second Ethshar novel I had pleasure to read, the first one was With A Single Spell. It was wonderful to move back to legendary times of the Great War, and find out that invincible Valder was same human as anyone. All readers, who remember Tobas and Elner speculating how easily they would kill dragon if they were Valder with a Magic Sword, will find it very amusing, how Valder dealt with a dragon himself. Obviously, killing was too simple - so instead he made dragon attacked enemy's camp, what's even more heroic, isn't it? This is a beautiful story, with even more beautiful ending. I wish the last few chapters lasted longer, I like them so much!
"The Misechanted Sword", first volume of Legends of Ethshar, gives a preview of all these things, which you'll find in "With A Single Spell". We meet Valder - a young scout, involved in very strange adventures by a powerful, but anonymous wizard. The misenchanted sword from the title, created by this wizard, keeps attracting new challenges to Valder, and he has to face them (either he likes it or not). There is a dragon here, and magic, and sword duels (actually one-side duels), assasinations and beautiful women. The book lets us know more about Old Ethshar (or it's fall actually), explains what happened to powerful magic, and finally it shows how the main character became legendary Valder with a magic sword, mentioned also in "With A Single Spell". Do you want to know more? I invite you to the lecture. Really - it's impossible to ignore this book. It's a really tasty piece for all fantasy admirers.
Great book, I must say. At first I kinda had my doubts, but they soon vanished thanks the Lawrence's great skill. He always has me on the edge of my seat, never wanting to put the book down. Kudos!
Wonderful book. I admire Lawrence's talent to keep reader in suspence. I just couldn't wait how will the story end, and when it was over, I regretted that it's the end...
