With a bit of shame I have to admit, that I've seen the movie before I read this part of Tolkien's Trilogy. I knew Hobbit before, and was surprised that this small invisibility ring from Hobbit turns out to be such an important artifact. The Fellowship of the Ring introduces us to the story and characters, and prepares us for the action that will take place in Two Towers and The Return of the King.
An excellent entry to the Trilogy. A little bit boring because of lack of action, but the book reveals the basics of the fantastic Tolkien's world. 'The Lord of the Ring' is the best book describing the races of Tolkien's world.
