The Colour of Magic

What would be the most serious threat for existence of the oldest city in the world, if not an insurence clerk on holidays? What horror, hidden between seven and nine, awaits for each wizard? How to escape from a gloomy cave if not to get to imagine a helpful dragon? And if you want to visit the another worlds, why not jump from the Disc edge? These are usual ways the life goes in Discworld, nevertheless none of them are as strange as fish from Dehydrated Ocean in the heart of the driest desert of the Disc...

Actually, since first phrases of the book I was delighted with elaborate style of the author. Although I personally prefere less crazy fantasy worlds and more predictable magic, I could hardly resist the charm of Discworld. The scale of author's ideas is amazing, though to understand all his allusions, it's needed to have a significant knowledge from many branches of science and arts. There is no other series with such a manner of constructing a humour. I'm full of admiration :))

Twoflower brings not only some exotics to Ankh-Morpork, but also some advanced technology (a picture box) and unusual Luggage, which will follow Rincewind in next parts - there is something in phrase "I'll follow you even in hell" :D As each book from Discworld series, the reading was excellent experience for me, even if it wasn't the one I started my adventure with Discworld. However, I recommend this one for beginners to start with - so you'll know, what the chest on legs came from :)

Even if I'm only 12, I don't remember when exactly I took Pratchett's book for the first time. Every new book written by him I read before it becames well known on Polish market. Crazy Discworld universe is a nice change for fantasy readers who are used to boringly serious series by Tolkien and K. LeGuin.

I warmly recommend also other parts of the series.

Pratchett is the best fantasy writer I know (he's got no competition) as for me it's worth and even required to read him!!
